She writes mysteries as Marion Crook and Emma Dakin. As Marion McKinnon Crook she writes non-fiction. Always Pack a Candle: A Nurse in the Cariboo-Chilcotin (Heritage House Publishing) is the story of her early life as a newly graduated public heath nurse. This book won the 2022 Lieutenant-Governor’s Community History Award. Always on Call: Adventures in Nursing, Ranching and Rural Living i(2024) is the second memoir. Crook has been leading a double life as a nurse and a writer, sometimes alternatively and sometimes concurrently. She has produced many trade publications over the years writing both fiction and non-fiction for Middle Grade and Young Adult readers as well as an instructive book Writing for Children and Young Adults (Self-Counsel). She taught both nursing and creative writing at university and is a long-time member of The Writers’ Union of Canada.
She presented at the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts in 1986.
