Judy Gill was born in Pender Harbour, and grew up in Egmont. In the 1970s, Gill lived with her husband in Germany. She sold six books to British publishers before returning returning to the Sunshine Coast. She wrote for a by-weekly trade newspaper, managed a book store, then returned to writing.

She appeared at the Festival of Written Arts in 1992.
