A Salt Spring Island poet, journalist, editor and novelist. Born in Vancouver, he studied literature at Simon Fraser University before becoming a journalist and critic for numerous local and national publications.
Brian has been writing and publishing since the late 1960s and has worked extensively as an editor. His three-volume memoir is comprised of Uproar’s Your Only Music (2004); Trauma Farm (2009, winner of Writers’ Trust Canadian Non-Fiction Prize); and Tuco (2015).
In 2016, the Writers’ Trust of Canada awarded Brian the Matt Cohen Lifetime Award to honour his body of work.
Presented at the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts, Sechelt in 2006 and 2010.
